Irish mining company pledges to continue using Mozambican labor
The Irish mining company Kenmare said it is committed to using Mozambican labor at its mining project in the northern Mozambican province of Nampula, local media said on Tuesday.

Kenmare, which is involved in the exploration of heavy sands at Topuito in Moma district, said Mozambican labor will be the priority in its undertakings, despite the lack of qualified personnel in Mozambique for the sector.

Gareth Clifton, Kenmare representative in Mozambique, told Mozambique's Labor Minister Helena Taipo who visited the project on Sunday and Monday that problems detected by the Mozambican authorities on labor recruitment will be corrected.

According to the media, problems were found on the recruitment of labor at Kenmare, when Taipo toured the factory at the beginning of the year.

According to the Mozambican labor law, no company is allowed to recruit foreign worker before being sure that there no one in Mozambique who is capable of doing the job.

Taipo and Clipton agreed at the meeting that they are going to work together to correct the situation, and reviewed the agreement signed between Kenmare and the Mozambican government on the setting up the project.

Kenmare expressed its commitment to training Mozambican manpower gradually, so that there could be Mozambican qualified labor.
