Mozambique Labor Ministry suspends 115 foreign illegal workers
A total of 115 illegal workers working in the western province of Tete were suspended by the Labor Ministry.

They were brought to Mozambique by the South African Company Kentz Engineer and Constructors, a company selected by the coal mining company Vale Mozambique for construction works in Moatize, Tete province, local media reports on Wednesday.

They were detected in a supervision carried out by the Labor Inspectorate which among other things it concluded a number of irregularities in the company such as no weekly days for resting, staff had not been registered to the National Social Security Institute, insufficient equipment for protection, no holidays.

The inspectorate said 16 staff from Kentz Engineer Constructors had their contracts terminated and were rehired against what was established by the Mozambican legal vehicles.

In addition to staff suspended Kentz Engineer and Constructors will be applied a fine estimated at 1.25 million U.S. dollars and it was given 30 days to correct all the irregularities.

The Inspections Directorate says Kentz Engineer has more than 1, 000 national staff and more than 200 foreign staff some of them without a clear justification of their working contracts.
