Rwandan gov't to issue new travel document

Rwandan gov't to issue new travel document
The immigration and emigration department in Rwanda on Tuesday announced that it would soon start issuing new travel document commonly known as Laisser passer.

The new Laissez-passer will have security features and other relevant requirements in accordance to the standards and quality of International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO).

According to the official from the immigration, the travel document resembles national passport and it's comfortable to use compared to previous one that was in form of a paper.

The new document will be in a booklet form with 32 pages instead of a four page folder and its validity shall be two years rather than one year as it has been.

"Our aim is to improve the quality of services to the people. The new document will be scanned at the boarders not like the previous one that is in form of a paper, ".Ange Sebutege, a communication's officer at Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration said.

He said that it will help travelers not to spend much time at boarders as it needs just scanning unlike the previous one.

He noted that the fee of the new document will be 10.000frw for adults and 5000Frw for children under 16 years as the previous one is at 3000frw.

The new document will be introduced next year in January in addition to the existing ones such as a passport.
